Ladies and Gentlemen-My Soul

Wow! Here it is-My soul all summed up. I'm retrospective. Who knew? :) Happy Friday people!

You Are a Retrospective Soul

The most misunderstood of all the soul signs.
Sometimes you even have difficulty seeing yourself as who you are.
You are intense and desire perfection in every facet of your life.
You're best described as extremely idealistic, hardworking, and a survivor.

Great moments of insight and sensitivity come to you easily.
But if you aren't careful, you'll ignore these moments and repeat past mistakes.
For you, it is difficult to separate the past from the present.
You will succeed once you overcome the disappointments in life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Traveler Soul and Prophet Soul

After the excitement of our little jaunt I have nothing much to say.

It did snow today for all of ten minutes. That was fun. By the time I left for work it had all melted. It was almost like it never happened at all. (I've had relationships like that too.)

I worked at the theatre all afternoon. Then Scott and I went to the gym. When we got home I watched Dangerous Beauty. I've been reading Memiors of a Geshia-so I was in the mood to watch a movie about courtesans. Right after the movie was over my very good friend, Alan, called. We laughed. We cried. It was better than Cats. We'll do it again and again. Now I am off to bed. Wow-I love blogs. Even the most boring days look impressive when they are all written out and have a cool graphic blog quiz thing attached to them.

Goodnight.

The Makings of a Plan (Our Three Day Vacation)

This is how this story begins:

On Saturday morning, in true Pez planning style, Scott turns to me and says "Hey, we both have the next three days off we should go somewhere."

To which I say, "Yes-Let's!"

Since we have been together we have never had a "real" vacation together. We have never been anywhere for more than a day without having to be somewhere or do something that is planned out for us.

We've never been able to go anywhere when we had holiday time off. We've visited family, which is always fun. However, we've never gotten to go off by ourselves for a holiday. We rarely have had more than two days off together in the last two years!

We have never had any sort of real Anniversary celebration either. We've always talked of doing something but could never afford to do anything more than go out to eat.

In short, we needed a vacation! I mean look at us! We could do with a day off.

So-We throw caution to the wind this time and take off for a three day romp in the Olympic National Park area.

Our final destination is to be La Push, WA.

This is a small Native American community which has a resort on the reservation.

Their web site declared "A vacation at Ocean Park is a true escape from the frenzied pace of city life. You will find no telephones or television sets in any of our accommodations. Experience the unique heritage and special customs of a Native American tribe first hand. Take a breath of fresh air that is pure and pollution free. Sleep tight! Safe and sound away from the city, with no sirens waking you up in the middle of the night. Hike trails through an ancient forest where time stands still. Watch the sea lions playing in the marina.Fall in love with the Pacific Ocean; fly kites on the beach, build sand castles, enjoy a campfire, explore rocks and surf. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!"

And we fully intend to!!!!!! Posted by Picasa

Day One: The Journey Begins

And so our adventure begins! We are off to the ferry boats to journey across the waters to the far side of Washington.

Oh boy! A ferry boat!

My first trip on a boat-EVER!!!!

I am very excited as we wait in line to pull our car aboard. Posted by Picasa

I decide right away that ferry rides are very agreeable.

I'm a little sad that we can't feel any rocking though. For some reason I always thought that being on a boat would be like in the movies.

You know-All rolling back and forth, holding on to things to keep from falling down and waves tossing up on the deck.

Oh well, we can't have everything on this little adventure now can we? Posted by Picasa

I check out the view from the back of the ship.

No, I do not put my arms out and yell "I'm the king of the world."

Although several other idiots do.

Thank goodness my boyfriend is not one of them. Posted by Picasa

On our way to Neah Bay, the northwestern most town on the Olympic Peninsula, we pass a jogging fish.

Naturally, Scott feels the need challenge it to a race. The jogging fish will have none of it.

So we push on.

Neah Bay was not in the least bit interesting.

However, we can see Canada from there and now we can say that we've been to "the northwestern most town on the Olympic Peninsula".

Which we will say. Trust me. Posted by Picasa

On our way back we find the female fish jogging along another road in town.

The strange thing is when we drive back by where the boy fish was earlier...He's gone! Somehow in the two hours since we had passed him someone had come along and taken him away. All that's there is the stand he had been on and some random screws that got left behind. Someone stole the jogging fish!

Either that or he finished the race and went home.

We reach our motel in the early evening.

We are staying in the Ocean Park Resort at La Push, Washington.

The view from our room is out of this world!

We keep saying over and over that we can't believe how lucky we were to find this place.

The beach begins right outside our back porch!! Posted by Picasa

After storing all of our gear in the room we head down to the ocean.

Though it is a bit cold and windy we can't stand to leave the beach. We walk up and down for more than an hour and wait for the sun to set. Posted by Picasa

Not having spent very many days of my life near any ocean I play near the waters edge like a five year old. Running back and forth with the tide passes the time quite nicely.

With the sun setting on us
we realize that our first day of vaction
is coming to a close.

What a great first day it was too. Posted by Picasa

Day Two: So Many Adventures, So Little Time

After nearly ten hours of sleep I wake up and take a walk down on the beach.

It's a beautiful, foggy morning.

The waves curl gently onto the shore while I look for interesting rocks and drift wood. It appears that I am only the second person to have walked on the sand this morning. The first being Scott who has already had his morning run and is back at the room showering.

After more than half an hour I force myself to look away from the water and head back.

We have a lot of exploring to do today and we must get on our way. Posted by Picasa

After our morning exercise we drop by a local cafe for breakfast.

A million cups of coffee later we are off to the Hoh Rainforest.

(You know-Where your Momma lives)

Although we do not do the 5 mile hike in we enjoy the rainforest anyway. We check out the flora and fauna from the trailhead.

It is one of only three temperate rainforests in the world!

This is a beautiful park. And sur-prise, sur-prise! It rains on us. Imagine that. Rain in the rainforest.

After leaving the forest we come to a small pond that drains into a very large river.

I try to sneak up on the large flock of mallard ducks feasting on the water plants but they take wing the moment I get near.

We also see a small group of elk feeding off in the distance.

The best part about this lake is a small island in the center. The island consists of a tree stump with a small clump of dry land attached to it. And-On top of this small clump of land is the cutest woodland creature that I have ever seen...a otter! We watch him clean himself and then fall asleep with his little fuzzy head drooping onto the grass. Unfortunatly, he is too far away to get a photo of him. So instead I take a picture of Scott watching the otter. (Which is almost as good-right?) Posted by Picasa

After a while we can stand no more of the otter's cuteness.

We decide to hike down to the river to see what we can see.

What did we see?

Sand, rocks and water mostly. We also find racoon and elk tracks in the waters soft black sand. Posted by Picasa

Do people really need signs to know that it is a good idea to run away (and uphill) from an incoming tsunami?

After returning to the motel we decide to walk down to the beach.

There is too much fog to watch the sun go down so we entertain ourselves in other ways.

I look for seashells as Scott plays chicken with the incoming tide.

(He loses by the way and gets soaked in the process) Posted by Picasa

Our motel room came with it's own kitchenette.
We are very excited about this.
So- We run to the store to buy supplies.
Steaks, pasta salad and bread sticks are on the menu.

Scott cooks.

It is only after he begins cooking that we realize that we are missing a few essential items (ie. forks and plates).

We make do and have a really lovely dinner using plastic baby forks and the cutting board as a shared plate. Posted by Picasa

This is a rare photo of the male Pookimus Maximus washing dishes!

I will be submitting this to the Smithsonian once we return to civilization.  Posted by Picasa

Day Three: The Goodbye

I say farewell to our pretty view and the awe inspiring ocean.

Although it was a short get-away this may very well be the best vacation I have ever had.

Scott and I consider this to be our first "real" vacation. We declare it to be a great success.  Posted by Picasa

We sadly turn in our key and check out of the motel.

We look forward to the trip home too. We have lots of forests and lakes to drive past.

Plus two more ferry rides! (We are taking a different route home.) Posted by Picasa

Our ferry trips back are just as much fun as they were on the first day. The fog was rolling in though so I had to turn my camera elsewhere.

Now I ask you-Is flushing mopheads really so much of a problem on ferries that they had to post this????? Posted by Picasa

Scott waves goodbye to Port Townsend.

I wave goodbye to our lovely vacation.

(And to all of you!) Posted by Picasa

Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.
Sam Ewing

I have been a very busy bee. In the last two days I have worked a grand total of 30 hours! This entire week I have been driving back and forth between my "day job" and the theatre. I was training the girl who is taking my place in the mornings. In the afternoons I was working in the Box Office. And, at night I was House Manager. Crazy! Well-No more of that for me. Today was my last day at the "day job". I now work at the theatre and only the theatre. Yay me! Posted by Picasa
