My Big Fat Yellowstone Aventure-Day 5:

-I drove home in 12 hours.

-I thought about all the fun I had with Erin (and friends) at Yellowstone for about 11 1/2 hours.

-The other 1/2 I thought about my Sonic burger, tots and cherry limeade that I had when I stopped there again on the way home.

My Big Fat Yellowstone Aventure-Day 4:

-After sleeping in we decided to take a stroll around the boardwalk that surrounds the are around Old Faithful.

-We got to the Grand Geyser just as it started to go off. (Very lucky since this geyser goes off every 7-15 hours!!!!)

-I couldn't believe how high water can shoot straight out of the ground.

-We laughed (inside our heads) at the folks who were late and ran up just as the last drop fell to the ground.

-We left the flat ground and headed for the hills.

-At the top is the Solitary Geyser...A sad little thing.

-I was impressed by the view from the Observatory.

-I discovered that I really appreciate the fact that we don't have mosquitoes in Seattle.

-The thought "Another geyser? Yawn." never crossed my mind.

-After lunch we drove down to the South Gate.

-Our stop at Moose Falls gave us a chance to cool our feet and take some fun pictures.

-It was fun to be so close to the bottom of a fall.

-It was peaceful and I was glad for the shade.

-It was a good last day in the park.

It's good to know that you're encouraged to comfort your boat by staying with it if it gets upset.

My Big Fat Yellowstone Aventure-Day 3:

Day 3:

-Went on a morning hike around to many of the local pools.

-I was amazed at how pretty hot water can be.

-Sat with our feet in the river and watched fish snatch dragonflies out of the air.

-Was heckled by a car load of boys (which I flipped off).

A tiny fraction of the beauty we saw...

As we were walking back from our morning hike we stopped to have a drink. We were happily staring at a tiny geyser nearby spewing it's heart out...all three feet of it. We noticed several people pass by in a hurry but ignored them. After a few more mintues of watching the tiny bubbling hole I noticed several more people running past. I asked Erin why people were running on the trail. She said she wasen't sure why and at that moment we both turned and saw this---------->

The Riverside Geyser is one of the most impressive geysers in the park (next to Old Faithful and Grand Geyser).

It only goes off every 5 1/2-6 1/2 hours so of course everyone was running!

We crown ourselves the most observant girls in the park and moved on.

-Later that afternoon we drove out to the Grand Prismatic

-I was sad I couldn't even begin to capture the beauty of this spot.

-It was very hot and very stinky.

-We made a few stops along the way back.

-We enjoyed this spot the most.

This is what happens if you die on the trail...The rangers just leave you there.

My Big Fat Yellowstone Aventure-Day 2:

-We go down to the general store and have a fun breakfast sitting at the counter.

-I discover the smoke that I see on the horizon is not fire but steam. I am very relieved.

-We wait for Old Faithful to erupt, which it does right on cue...thus the name.

Old Faithful...Before, During and After....Tah, Dah!

-We drive up to the North Gate of the park.

-I decide that Mammoth Springs is my favorite spot in the park.

-I stand amazed at the beauty of the springs and declare that I would like to live right beside the springs (despite the strong rotten egg smell).

-It rains...hard...for about three minutes.

-As we return from the north we stop at many different spots along the way.

-I decide that I would like to live in several parts of the park...at the same time....for the summer only.

-We decide that bacteria mats are scary but pretty.

-Erin declares that I have "geyser magic" since each one we stop at erupts immediately after our arrival.

-I am sunburned.

Apparently if you stand on the geyers the worst that will happen is your hat will fly off!

My Big Fat Yellowstone Aventure-Day 1:

-I make my way from Seattle to Yellowstone. It takes me 14 hours of almost non-stop driving but I get there with my sanity intact...sort of.

-I am delighted to find the only Sonic in this neck of the woods. I stop for a well deserved cherry limeade and a soggy burger. (Reminds me of college and I think of that while driving through the entire top part of Idaho....all 60 minutes of it!)

-I find out that gas is verrrry expensive in all 4 states that I must travel through and to fill my tank cost a whopping $50! (It takes 2 1/2 tanks to drive from Seattle to Yellowstone in my little car.)

-I arrive in Yellowstone just in time to see a heard of elk crossing the road.

-Erin greets me at the Old Faithful Lodge and we have fancy drinks and fried green beans to celebrate my arrival.

5 1/2 years and still smiling...

We have made it through 5 1/2 years together! I'm as suprised as you are. :)

Happy 4th o' July!

We didn't do much today...Mostly we ate and watched the sun go down. The fireworks were moved this year. Even though we had a great view from David and Camilla's of the water the fireworks were so close to the shore and far off to the side we barely caught a spark over the roof of the houses. Oh well, we had cupcakes and that's all that really matters on the 4th. :)

For those of you out there who might be a tad concerned about our environment and such there is a anti-plastic bottle campaign that I totally endorse.
