Here's what I've been reading:

Any standout favorites in this list or stinker to avoid?

How far did you get in Snow Crash? I took a 3 month break about 75% of the way though, before finishing it up. It started out well, loved the concepts, but it just became messy at the end.

I loved:

Chocolat
(So different from the movie but just as beautiful.)

Alas, Babylon
(What a great end of the world story. I liked the characters and how they handled their new lives after the bomb.)

Sweet Potato Queen
(I laughed. I cried. I wanted tobe friends with each and every character in this story. i would love to join them in the Sweet Potato parade!)

The Children of Men
(OMG! Why did they f#@& with this story? This book was so powerful and not one bit like the aweful movie script that bears the same name.)

Bloodsucking Fiends
(So funny! Who knew that being a vampire could be so hard? He's a fun writer and great story teller.)

Harry Potter 7
(Yay! What a great end to a wonderful story!! Loved it!!!)

Goodbye Tsugumi
(Beautiful story about two young Japanese girls who different as night and day. Nothing got lost in the translation of this fast moving memoir.)

I hated:

A Wizard of Earthsea
(I can not believe this is a beloved "classic". I was pushing just to make it to the next page. How can you make fantasy this boring?)

Catcher in the Rye
(ARRGH! Yet another "classic" that just made me want to chuck it across the room. Why is this book on the top of lists of greatest literature? Why? Why??)

Journey to the Center of the Earth
(Page after page after page of what the rocks looked like, how hot it was, how hungry they were, how dark the caves were......And-It never got exciting! Snore.)

The rest were good to okay. I always think of "great" books as those I would read again some day.

As to Snow Crash I read to page 100 and had to give up. I didn't like the story from page 1! It just did nothing for me.
