Making History....

Space shuttle blasts off into the night
The space shuttle Endeavour blazed into the night sky early Tuesday, heading into orbit for the longest visit ever to the international space station.

REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS FRONT PAGE NEWS? What the heck happened? Launching people into space used to be a really big deal. Now it's lucky to make it to the inside of the front section of the newspaper. Even online today, it's a sidebar at best.

And what is plastered all over the place instead? New York governor Eliot Spitzer's involvement in a prostitution ring.

Who cares? He's an asshole. Big surprise. I mean.....What? A politician who broke the law (several, in fact) and cheated on his wife with a prostitute? My God! That's the first time in history that that has happened!

HELLO! We just shot seven men into space! This is a BIG deal.

Have we all been desensitized by Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files and the plethora of other Sci-Fi shows and movies? Maybe the fact that we can turn on the television at any point in the day and see people floating around in their fancy spaceships and little green men running rampant through the streets has made this little launch an event of no importance to most of the world. However, this is real and the others are not. Wake up people!

Stop gossip mongering and pay attention to the people who are actually doing important things for humanity.

(This concludes my rant for the day)
