A farewell to kitty...

As most of you know, our lives are about to undergo a huge change and with that comes some tough choices. One of which is the downsizing of our family.

Khea is a wonderful kitty and we really enjoy having her. However, she and Kerwin have not really made friends very well. This fact coupled with others has caused us to reach a sad but necessary decision...We have decided that Khea is going to return to her former mommy.

She will be missed. :(

California dreamin'...

After a lot of planning we were able to get up the funds for a short trip to California to visit my Mom and Lily. I have been looking forward to it for months and once it came it seemed to fly right by!

Early Thursday morning we started our trip off with a short flight from Portland to Sacramento. I was so excited! (and so was the moose!)

The best part of the flight was when we flew right over the top of Mount Shasta!

It's so beautiful and amazing.

It was so nice to see my Mom and Lily waiting for us at the airport. I can't believe it's been more than a year since I last saw them!

We went out to eat and talked the whole time. The best part about family is that you don't feel wierd no matter how long you've been apart.

It was a great first day of our little trip.

On Friday we drove to Monterey! This was the highlight of the trip and something that we had been talking about for a long time. Lily had never been to an aquarium and I figured why not take her to one of the largest in the world?!

There was so much to see! I had heard that it was worth going to but I had no idea. The place was huge.

The most interesting thing they had there I couldn't get a good picture of but-it's called a sunfish and if you have never seen one in real life I recommend doing so.

We all had a great time...

Lily loved everything, of course!

My Mom just loved being back in Monterey.

And Scott found out that he is almost as big as a baby whale!

The jellyfish exhibit was my favorite part.

(Have I ever mentioned how much I like jellyfish? Weird creature to be partial to, I know.)

What a wonderful day!

Saturday was fun too. After waking up and having a nice breakfast we headed to Old Sacramento. We watched the steamboats on the river and saw a real old style train. We ate lots of saltwater taffy, old fashion ice cream and ye olde tacos. It was a great outing!

(Aunt Nancy, Mom, Me, Lily, Nana)

On Sunday we had a BBQ at my uncle's house. It was nice to see my family. It's been a long time and none of us are getting any younger. When we left for the airport I was a little sad knowing that this might be the last time I ever see my grandparents. Who knows when I'll have the chance (or money) to visit again. I tried not to think about it though as we sat around laughing and sharing stories about the past two years.

As the sun began to swing low we took a last picture and headed for the airport.

At the airport everyone was carrying their copy of Harry Potter around. It was nice to see so many people sharing the experience of reading a book. We read until we got on the plane and as we flew back to Portland. It helped take my mind off the family that I was leaving behind...again.

I miss them already.

Musings from the Dishwasher

I always seem to think best when I am washing dishes (which is funny because I detest this task almost as much as doing laundry). Anyway-While scrubbing away I got a little lost in thought and...

I just finished watching a movie which had a running theme of trusting in destiny. In the end the guy gets his girl and they happily kiss in the snow. Silly film really, loads of fluff but it got me thinking.

What happens to the victims of this so called destiny thing? In the film he dumps a woman at the alter because he can't stop thinking about the mystery girl. She breaks up with her very cute and very sweet boyfriend because she wants to go in search of a guy she met briefly years ago in a store. Cute, right?

But what about the girl and guy that are dumped? Where's their happy ending? While we are sighing and wiping away tears at the happy reunion of true love they are at home crying into their pillows.

I know, I know... It's just a movie.

But the funny thing is I have known first hand what this type of storyline is like to live through. I have been both victim and cause of unhappy endings myself.

So, where's the story of those who's destiny is to be shat upon?

There can't be happy endings for everyone in this life. Just pick up a newspaper or watch TV for five minutes. Unhappy endings happen every hour...hell, every moment...of everyday.

So, my question is this: Why is destiny so kind to some and so cruel to others?

No, I guess what my real question is: What's the meaning of life and who the hell came up with the idea in the first place?

(I guess it was my destiny to wash those dishes and think these deep thoughts just for your reading pleasure.)

Thought for the moment...

It is impossible to cry and feel sorry for yourself when you have two cats that believe your moment of pain is a perfect opportunity to be petted.
