What Dreams May Come Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/29/2005

I'm watching What Dreams May Come right now. I love this movie. But God it ALWAYS makes me cry! I know what's coming but that never matters!! It's a wonderful kind of sad though. It's also an incredible book. *Chills*

Here's a good list of movies that have that effect on me...

Movies That Make Me Cry (Every time): Out of Africa (1985), Dances with Wolves (1990), Braveheart (1995), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Schindler's List (1993), The Fox and the Hound (1981), Steel Magnolias (?), Beaches (?), Lord of the Rings:Return of the King (?), The Color Purple (?)

I'm sure I missed a few. What can I say-I love drama!

Oh-I saw the scariest movie last night...White Noise! Scott and I spent most of the movie hiding behind our hands and burying our faces in the sofa. Scary movie, fascinating subject.

These palms are the only thing enjoying summer in Merced. Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/28/2005 (Heat-Nevermore)

It's starting to heat up out there! I can feel it coming....The heat...Overwhelming us with intense waves...Radiating out in every direction...Drying out the senses...Consuming life... Sucking the soul of all feeling...

Ok-So maybe the heat is not that bad...But it is coming.

This place drives me crazy. It's not just the heat either (which is nothing compared to my birthplace-Texas-Where it is 90 degrees on Christmas.) It's the sadness, the despair, the hopelessness of all that surrounds us here.

Now, to make things even worse-The birds are dying! Birds all over the city are contracting the West Nile disease. There is, even now as I write, a baby crow downstairs in the courtyard waiting for the hand of death to take it's grip. It's maddening.

Must move soon...Madness is catching.

Don't try to take away his game! He'll bite!! Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/27/2005 (Busy Bee and Game Boy)

Not much going on today. Just the calm before the storm. Next weekend Lily is coming for a three day stay. The Fourth of July is on Monday. Tuesday Shakespeare in the Park rehearsals begin, in full force!

I will be busy.

I guess Scott will be playing a lot of video games for a while!

What is it with men and video games, by the way? It's like a love affair of it's own. When we went on vacation (all of 5 days) nearly all he could talk about on the way to Oregon and back was his video games!! I sometimes think that if Scott didn't have his games he would curl up and die! Oh well, there are worse things he could be doing in his free time. This is the least of evils. :)

Scotty and me and Big Tree makes three! Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/25/2005 (Big Trees)

We got out of town today! Yay! Off to the foothills...We had breakfast at our favorite little place in Sonora-The Miner's Shack. Then we walked the streets reminiscing about the days gone by.
After that it was off to Big Trees. Ah...trees...and air that was not chewy. Love it!
Now I will rest.

These are a few of my favorite things... Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/24/2005 (Sick Again/Book Survey)

Ok-So folks...I am home once again from work...sick...GRRRRRRRRR!!!
The sad/happy thing is today I can't veg on the couch like last time....

Why? Well-#1. They have picked today to trim the bushes and mow the lawn right outside our apartment #2. Scott is home from work too-He's working the Sunday shift (which I only found out when he woke up this morning, wandered into the living room, went to sit down and then screamed like a little girl because he did not know I was still at home and almost sat on my dying body reclining on the sofa!!!!!!!!) Now he wants to take me camping. Yeah-That will cure that migraine right up!

So I am stealing the meme from Katie's blog and using it to make today an interesting post.

...BOOK SURVEY...

1) Total number of books owned: About 500...About half of those are paper back novels. I have read ALL of them too! The other half is composed of scripts, books about theatre and miscellaneous reference books on subjects ranging from owning your own business to camping in Death Valley. I love reference books. I like to read little factoids about all kinds of subjects. It's nice to be able to make at least one intelligent comment during a conversation about quantum physics!

2) Last book bought:How To Be A Working Actor by Mari Lyn Henry & Lynne Rogers I am brushing up on the latest trends in resumes and head shots. Once Scott finds out which newspaper he's going to move to next I'll make my next move. I am going to send out packets to every theatre within an hours drive. I'm hoping to find a job this way??? I don't know if it will work but it's worth a try. At least they'll all know there's a new girl in town.

3) Last book read: Nightfall by Isaac Asimov & Robert Silverberg-Two of my favorite authors. It's a great Sci-Fi novel about a planet that lives in perpetual light (they have six suns.) Then one day an eclipse happens. The world is plunged into total darkness creating massive chaos and causing tremendous psychological damage. I read it in three days.

4) Five books that mean something:
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood-This story is chilling because you can almost imagine it happening any day now. I sometimes feel that even in these "modern times" women's rights are teetering on the edge. In fact, many women still to this day do not have civil rights. Ours could be wrenched away too. This book poses that what if.
Kingdoms of the Wall by Robert Silverberg- Traveling up "The Wall" a young man goes in search of answers from the gods. All he truly finds are more questions with answers best left unfound.
Animal Farm by George Orwell-The rise and fall of government as told, in fairy tale like style, by a group of farm animals. The old saying of "men are pigs" come to life.
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift- All the ills of society, religion and government told over by a traveling surgeon. Gulliver has the misfortune to be in a succession of ship wreaks which land him on islands of strange and fascinating people.
1984 by George Orwell- "Big Brother is watching you." A government, set in the future, gone very bad. Maybe. A commentary on our modern day government. Very likely. Read it and see a striking resemblance to our current events.
(Honorable Mention-Children's book that means something:
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien- Themes include environmental pollution, the over crowding population of mankind, governmental corruption and the evils of testing on lab animals! What a great children's book! And it's fun and easy to read!!)

5) Book character you would have a romantic rendezvous with: Lestat from Interview With the Vampire I know he's evil. I know he would try to kill me a drink my blood. He's such a great character though. As you read deeper into the Vampire Chronicles you find that he has so many layers as a man/vampire. Plus he's funny, rich, sexy and can make a girl immortal! What more do you need in a man?

6) Some people who have to reply to this: Well-I just hope someone does! It would be interesting to see what Adam "I read a book once a year" Eakins would have to say about this.

I love this movie! Addicted To Love!!!! Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/23/2005 (Meg Ryan)

I went back to work today. I'm still not feeling great but I can't really afford to skip too many days.

I just finished watching French Kiss. Sigh. I love Meg Ryan. I wish I could be like her. She's funny, cute, thin and a great actress. I love her movies. Some of my favorites are When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless In Seattle and Courage Under Fire. One of my very, very favorite movies ever is Addicted to Love. This movie is "A Comedy About Lost Loves And Last Laughs." It's a riot.

I know she makes girlie movies but I guess I am a bit girlie at heart. I like Julia Roberts too! I had an ex-boyfriend who said "Any woman who likes Julia Roberts is shallow and stupid." Like I said-Ex-boyfriend.

Blue skies over Crater Lake, Or. Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/22/2005 (Sick and Dreaming)

Here I sit on my sofa-Sick! Again! Grrrrrr! I hate this town! Yes-This town makes me sick. The doctor said that I am "allergic to the air" here! It's called massive pollution...duh!

I missed work. I'm missing a production meeting and a rehearsal today! GRRRRRR!

I'm laying here dreaming of Oregon skies. That wonderful afternoon by Crater Lake. Ahhhh. It was breath taking. I wanted to stay. Everyday I wish we could move to Oregon. To leave this town (this state) and never look back. Sigh.

My pills are kicking in now. Back to sleep...To dream once more of the bluest skies I have ever seen.

Happy Father's Day. Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/21/2005 (Father's Day)

Not much happened today so I thought I would talk about this last weekend...

My father came for a short visit! How strange.

We (Scott, Mom, Lily and I) met him at IHop on Sunday.

Aside from a few (ok way more than a few) extra pounds and the fact his hair (what little there is) was totally white-He had not changed a bit (in looks or attitude) since I last saw him five years ago. He was still the same old Dale.

This meeting was quite the event, too. This was Scott's first time to meet him. Poor Scott. I tried to warn him before hand. Nothing can really prepare you for a visit from my father.

During breakfast at a VERY busy IHop: I kept repeating "He just doesn't know any better" and "He means well" over and over to myself. He had successfully scared off our first waitress (5 Minutes in) and offended our second (15minutes in.) He was well on his way to setting us all up for a execution style massacre by the many Merced gang and gang affiliated folks around us with his loud proclamations of "Mexi-cans" "Wet-backs" "Lazy Blacks on welfare" "Chinks" and my favorite "Mr. Bush-the best president we have had in a very long time."

After an hour I left the table in search of my mother (who had left us 20minutes earlier) and a bit of sanity. Scott stayed. Brave Scott.

It's at these times one might begin wishing to have been given the choice to choose their parents.

On one hand: There are many factors that contributed to my father and the person he is today. He grew up in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl. He was "hauling 50 pound bags of cotton" at the age of twelve. He was the unwanted middle child. He grew up in a very backwardly strict religious family. He was picked on relentlessly as a youth for being red headed. He had a hard life.

On the other hand I feel like there are too many excuses. For all that went wrong for him worse has been heaped on to so many who have turned out to become the worlds greatest leaders. I suppose for some it makes them stronger and for others it simply breaks them.

My father is broken. I love him still.

He was a good husband to my mother for many years. He cared for my brother and sisters like they were his own. And last but not least-He helped create me (although I was "an accident.")

It may be another 5 years before I see him again. With his health the way it is-This could have been our last meeting. Who knows? The funny thing is I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

Stop the world I want to get off... Posted by Hello

Stardate 06/20/2005 (First Post)

First post....I used to laugh at people who did these things...I guess I've changed my mind. I do that sometimes.

Today was, well, just another day. I woke up at 6:50am (after hitting snooze three times.) Showered, dressed and was ready for work in thirty minutes! Ate breakfast at home (which I NEVER do.) I was in my car at 7:58am. I'm supposed to be at work at 8am. Clocked in at exactly 8am! I live a half a block from work....Everyday I have to drive there...I am not lazy...Part of my job is to do errands during the day...So I have to drive to work... A half a block...It's stupid...This is the way my world works...

And so it begins-Work, work, work...Well, it's more like clock in, work (5minutes) gossip with the lady I work with (20minutes) work (10minutes) stop to chat with another co-worker who came to ask a "work" related question (15minutes) work (5minutes) bathroom break (10minutes b/c I run into chatty janitor in the hallway)......well, you get the picture....

After work I stopped to get food and came home to 1. Eat 2. Work on lines for Shakes in the Park 3. Type up Company Rules for SITP 4. Go to the gym for an hour...blah, blah, blah.

Here's what really happened: 1. Ate food 2. Lay down on couch to read "Just for a few minutes so my food can digest" 3. Woke up two hours later confused and wondering where my day went.

(5:53pm-Receive a call saying I am expected at rehersal in an hour! Akkk! How did I forget about that?)

(6:23pm-Running around like mad woman getting ready for rehearsal-Stop to check e-mail-Have found long lost very good friend from first two years of college-Jump for joy!!!)

(8:05pm-Home from rehersal-Had way too much fun-Will do it again)

(9:48pm-Wanted to make the following statement- "I like having a blog. It makes me feel as though I have important things to say. My appologies to all of the bloggers I have laughed at all these years. I was blind but now I see.")
